FAST Community Transport win CTA Inaugural Golf Classic!
Fermanagh and South Tryone (FAST) Community Transport were awarded the 1st place yesterday (13th July) at the 1st Community Transport Association (CTA) Golf Classic held in Newtownstewart Golf Club. The team of four players representing FAST Community Transport beat stiff competition from many other participating Community Transport groups across Northern Ireland.
The all day event encouraged golfers NI wide to compete in this team of four player’s male/female tournament while raising money for a sector now described as a transport service that contributes as much to community development as it does for ensuring essential access to services, such as health, employment and education.
Mrs Green, a member of the local community transport project, in Strabane stated: ‘For several years it has been very difficult to travel anywhere. Since I became a member of Community Transport, I can now afford to get the bus several times a week and I have all the help I need from the drivers, who go out of their way to ensure I travel in comfort and safety.’
Shauna Haughey from the Community Transport Association stated: ‘We are delighted that FAST Community Transport have won this prestigious title. The CTA Golf Classic has helped raise funds for our charity but also awareness of what Community Transport can do to help people in their daily lives. We are very appreciative of the help and support of the Newtownstewart Golf Club and to all our sponsors who really helped make the event a success.’
