About the CTA
The CTA exists to support its members and to act as the lead UK body for voluntary and community transport. Our members are organisations embedded in the communities they serve. This is what shapes so powerfully the voluntary and community transport network and explains why it is so well positioned to provide services that focus on the local, on one-to-one help, on being innovative. In developing local solutions to national concerns, operators of community transport can respond to both individual and collective needs and drive forward social regeneration in their communities.
The CTA's vision is of "A fairer society free of social exclusion and injustice where everyone has personal choice, mobility and access to the services they require."
The CTA in Northern Ireland
The CTA works to support its members in Northern Ireland through its office in Belfast.
Our work in Northern Ireland is supported by the Department for Regional Development.
CTA Northern Ireland generates additional finance to support its core services in Northern Ireland from its social enterprise activities and fund-raising to help us make a difference for our members.
Northern Ireland has a population of over 1.8 million with a high percentage living in rural communities. Northern Ireland has the highest level of disability in the UK and so we work hard to ensure accessible community transport solutions and issues are on the agenda of all our politicians and policy-makers.
Our pioneering services in Northern Ireland are wide-reaching but all share our commitment to deliver social change through leadership, learning and enterprise.
CTA hosts an electronic networking and information exchange group for operators of community transport services and CTA members in Northern Ireland. It is designed to facilitate communication between CTA members and other CT operators and allow the CTA to better articulate the views of these and other stakeholders in its national policy and representational work.
