Welcome to Community Transport ....
... the site about local community-based transport operators.
The 'Community Transport in Northern Ireland' site, managed by the Community Transport Association, represents a wide variety of operators who provide accessible
door-to-door and group travel services to community groups, older people and people with disabilities on a non-profit making basis throughout Northern Ireland. A community transport operator can be located in most parts of the country, in both urban and rural areas.
Individual Travel
Community Transport provides full accessible transport services for individuals who do not have access to alternative or conventional modes of transport. Transport is available on request from your local community transport operator and is subject to availability. In order to travel you must register as a member. Transport is provided either by community minibus or a volunteer car. Cost for transport is calculated on a not-for-profit basis – prices are available for members, on request. In rural areas individuals may use the Dial a Lift service that is subsidised by the Department for Regional Development’s Rural Transport Fund, this service is only available from Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm and does not provide travel to hospitals. Please note SmartPass concessions only apply for trips taken as part of the Dial a Lift service. If you wish to travel to hospitals, in the evenings or weekends and have difficulty accessing other transport options please contact your local community transport operator.
Group Transport
Community transport provides accessible transport solutions for community groups and associations and other charities. Transport is provided in minibuses. You can either hire a minibus with a driver or provide your own volunteer who can drive on your behalf. Please note: all drivers must be registered with your local community transport provider and have completed training such as MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) before they can take a bus out.
Transport is provided under the Section 10b permit rules. This means only member groups can make use of the minibuses. Becoming a member is easy, contact your local community transport operator for a membership application form and terms and conditions.
